Egypt has confirmed its support for India's upcoming BRICS presidency in 2026. On the sidelines of the G20 summit, the ministers of the two countries discussed the development of economic and investment projects, as well as prospects for cooperation in technology and innovation.

Egypt has officially expressed its support for India's upcoming BRICS presidency in 2026. This statement was made by Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelati during a meeting with Indian Foreign Minister Subramaniam Jaishankar at the G20 summit, which was held on November 22-23 in Johannesburg. During the talks, the parties discussed the strategic directions of cooperation between the two countries and outlined the priorities of future cooperation within the framework of the association.

The key focus of the negotiations was the strengthening of economic ties. The Egyptian side called on Indian companies to expand their presence in the country, using the opportunities of the Suez Canal economic Zone. This Territory offers significant tax and customs benefits, which makes it attractive to foreign investors and promotes the development of joint projects in industry, logistics and processing.

Special attention was also paid to the issues of technological and innovative cooperation. The Ministers stressed the need to expand partnership in the field of digital solutions, scientific research and joint development. Egypt considers India as one of the main technological partners in the region, and India, in turn, is interested in strengthening trade ties and joint projects in high-tech sectors.

At the diplomatic level, Egypt reaffirmed its commitment to deepening cooperation within the BRICS, where India will play a key role from 2026, replacing Brazil as chairman. Cairo expects that the new cycle of the presidency will strengthen economic cooperation between the countries of the association, especially in the areas of investment, promotion of sustainable development and infrastructure development.

Cooperation between Egypt and India has continued to expand in recent years. Mutual trade is growing, and investment projects are moving from discussions to practical implementation. Against the background of global economic challenges, countries are striving to strengthen partnerships that will help increase the stability of regional markets and expand international trade channels.
