Brazil's largest bank, Itaú Unibanco, has revised its views on bitcoin and recommended that investors include it in their portfolio. Despite the weak dynamics of the cryptocurrency in 2025, the bank considers bitcoin as a tool for diversification and protection from currency risks, especially in the context of instability of the Brazilian real and global economic challenges.

Brazil's largest financial institution, Itaú Unibanco, has updated its investment recommendations, recognizing bitcoin as a significant element of portfolio diversification. The bank recommends that private and institutional investors allocate up to 3% of assets to the first cryptocurrency, despite its restrained dynamics in 2025.

The Itaú analytical report highlights that bitcoin has evolved from a speculative instrument to an independent asset class capable of performing a capital protection function in the face of currency instability. Special attention is paid to the Brazilian real, which remains vulnerable to external macroeconomic shocks and fluctuations in global financial markets.

The bank's analysts note that the decentralized nature of bitcoin allows it to behave differently compared to traditional assets.
According to Itaú experts, "allocating up to 3% of the portfolio in bitcoin can increase the stability of investments and provide additional protection against the devaluation of the national currency."

At the same time, the bank emphasizes that bitcoin should not be considered as a tool for short-term profit. Volatility remains a key characteristic of the crypto market, and digital assets may show weak results in the short term.

The update of the recommendations has become an indicator of a broader transformation in the attitude of traditional financial institutions towards cryptocurrencies. Even with the moderate dynamics of bitcoin in 2025, Itaú considers the lack of exposure in crypto assets to be a potential risk to the investor's long-term strategy.

The regulatory environment is also an important factor. Brazil is expected to introduce comprehensive regulation of cryptocurrencies early next year. According to analysts, this will reduce legal uncertainty, increase the trust of institutional investors and simplify access to cryptocurrencies through regulated financial instruments.

Itaú already offers its clients the opportunity to invest in bitcoin through exchange-traded investment funds (ETFs), which allows for crypto exposure without direct ownership of digital assets.

Thus, the position of Brazil's largest bank reflects a global trend: cryptocurrencies are gradually being integrated into classic investment portfolios as an element of protection rather than speculation. For countries with volatile currencies, including the states of the Global South and BRICS, this approach may become part of a new financial architecture.
