Domodedovo Airport, which was seized in favor of the state, will be put up for sale at an open auction in early 2026. This was announced by Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov on the Rossiya 24 TV channel. According to him, potential investors have already shown interest in buying one of the country's largest aviation hubs.
The Minister stressed that the sale will take place in strict accordance with the current legislation and established privatization procedures.
"The relevant package will be put up for auction, an open auction, and we will conduct it in accordance with the rules approved in the legislation. I am sure that the auction will take place, there are interested parties, there are investors," Siluanov said.
Earlier, in September 2025, the Finance Minister admitted the possibility of selling the airport before the end of the year and noted that a potential buyer already exists. However, the deadlines were subsequently adjusted, and information about specific applicants was not disclosed.
Domodedovo's transfer to state ownership was the result of a court case. In June, the Arbitration Court of the Moscow Region granted the claim of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, seizing the airport's assets in favor of the state. The supervisory authority disputed the legality of the privatization, believing that as a result of the transactions, control over the strategic object of the transport infrastructure ended up with foreign entities.
The defendants in the case were the owner of the airport, Dmitry Kamenshchik, his partner, Valery Kogan, as well as the companies that owned the assets of Aviagavan. The Prosecutor General's Office insisted on invalidating the privatization deals, citing violations of the requirements of the law on strategic facilities.
Domodedovo is one of the country's key aviation hubs, serving a significant proportion of passenger and cargo traffic at the Moscow aviation hub. Experts note that its sale will be one of the largest transactions in the field of transport infrastructure in recent years and may significantly affect the configuration of the airport assets market in Russia.
The market expects that both Russian infrastructure holdings and financial investors can participate in the auction. The key factors for the future owner will be maintaining the operational stability of the airport, investing in modernization and ensuring compliance with security and government control requirements.
