Certification of light industry products is an important stage for entrepreneurs planning to work within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union. Clothing, shoes, textiles and haberdashery are in daily contact with consumers, and any violations of safety requirements can lead not only to fines, but also to a loss of trust on the part of customers and partners.
Technical Regulation TR CU 017/2011 was adopted to establish mandatory standards to ensure the safety of goods. It is mandatory for all companies wishing to sell products in the EAEU countries. Failure to comply with the regulations may lead to the withdrawal of goods from shelves and a ban on their sale.
The regulations cover a wide range of products, from outerwear and underwear to textiles and accessories. However, some categories, such as medical devices or custom goods, may not be covered by the document. In each case, it is necessary to check with the current edition of the TR CU and the explanations of the EEC.
As part of the conformity assessment, two procedures are provided: certification and declaration. The first one is used for categories with an increased level of risk — linen, bedding, the first category of hosiery. In the second case, the entrepreneur independently declares compliance by providing an evidence base in the form of test reports.
The choice of scheme depends on the product category, batch size, and customer requirements. For example, marketplaces, retail chains, and customs authorities often require official certificates to confirm the legality and security of supplies.
The registration process includes several stages: from product classification to receipt of final documents. It is important to correctly identify the HS code, prepare all the documentation, conduct tests and, if necessary, undergo a production audit.
As a result, the manufacturer receives either a certificate of conformity or a declaration, which is registered in the federal system. Both documents must contain information about the products, the expiration date, a link to the protocols and the registration number.
Certification is not just a formality, but an important business protection tool. It allows you to establish systematic quality control, increase consumer confidence and avoid blockages at customs and online platforms. The procedure is especially relevant when entering new markets, seasonal collections and business scaling.
Timely paperwork helps to avoid downtime, reduce costs and strengthen business reputation. In the context of stricter government control and growing demands from partners, a competent approach to certification is becoming a competitive advantage.
