The first official meeting of the customs departments of Russia and Indonesia took place at the BRICS summit. The parties discussed strengthening cooperation and preparations for signing a bilateral agreement.

As part of the BRICS events, the first official meeting was held between the Russian Federal Customs Service and the General Directorate of Customs and Excise of the Republic of Indonesia. Vladimir Ivin, Deputy Head of the Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation, and Jaka Utama, Director General of the Indonesian Customs Service, took part in the negotiations.

The parties noted the positive trends in the development of bilateral cooperation and expressed interest in further strengthening the partnership. The key achievement of the negotiations was the completion of the coordination of the draft intergovernmental agreement on cooperation and mutual assistance in the customs sphere. The document may be signed in the near future.

Among the topics discussed is the recognition of the status of an authorized economic operator (AEO), which will simplify procedures and speed up the movement of goods between countries. They also discussed issues of professional training, including the possibility of internships and specialist exchanges between departments.

Special attention was paid to the joint fight against violations of customs legislation. In this context, the need to strengthen control over the movement of objects subject to the CITES Convention, in particular, endangered flora and fauna, was discussed. This area is becoming increasingly relevant against the background of the growing tourist flow and direct flights between Russia and Indonesia.

The meeting was an important step in the development of customs cooperation, contributing not only to the simplification of foreign economic activity, but also to increasing transparency and safety of international transportation. The dialogue between the BRICS countries creates favorable conditions for increasing trade and logistical cooperation against the background of growing interest in the Asian region.
