The trade turnover between Russia and Ethiopia increased 2.2 times in the first half of 2025, reaching $191.2 million. The main driver of growth is the import of Ethiopian coffee.

Trade and economic cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia demonstrates impressive growth dynamics. According to the results of the first six months of 2025, the mutual trade turnover between the countries has more than doubled compared to the same period of the previous year.

This became known during a videoconference held by Maxim Reshetnikov, Head of the Russian Ministry of Economic Development, and Kasahun Gofe Balami, Minister of Trade and Regional Integration of Ethiopia. During the talks, the representatives of the two states discussed the current state and prospects for further development of the bilateral partnership.

According to the announced data, the volume of mutual trade has reached a significant mark of 191.2 million US dollars, which in ruble terms is approximately 15.36 billion. This significant increase is primarily due to an increase in imports from Ethiopia, among which the famous Ethiopian coffee, known for its exceptional quality and unique taste characteristics, occupies a special place.

During the talks, the parties also touched upon the issue of preparations for the upcoming meeting of the intergovernmental commission on economic, scientific and technical cooperation, scheduled for November this year. This event is designed to identify new areas of cooperation and strengthen existing trade ties.

The Russian side proposed to organize a series of online conferences that will allow the business communities of both countries to exchange information about demanded goods and services. According to Maxim Reshetnikov, domestic producers are ready to offer their Ethiopian partners grain crops, various types of fertilizers and modern agricultural machinery.

As a sign of further strengthening of bilateral relations, the Russian Minister invited his Ethiopian counterpart to pay an official visit to Russia. Such a visit could be an important step towards concluding new mutually beneficial agreements and contracts.

Such a significant increase in trade turnover testifies to the successful development of trade and economic relations between Russia and Ethiopia, as well as the great potential for further expansion of cooperation in various sectors of the economy.
