Chinese diplomat Sun Mingshi said that Ethiopia's accession to the BRICS has strengthened its international influence and strengthened Africa's role in global politics. China and Ethiopia continue to develop strategic partnerships and joint projects.

Charge d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia, Sun Mingshi, said that Ethiopia's accession to the BRICS has significantly strengthened its position on the world stage and opened up new prospects for partnership with the states of the Global South.

In an interview with Fana Media Corporation (FMC), a partner of TV BRICS, the diplomat noted that Ethiopia's active role in international and regional associations allows the country to form a new architecture of global cooperation, where Africa occupies an increasingly important place.

"Ethiopia has become an important voice in the developing world. Its participation in BRICS enhances the continent's integration into the global economy," Sun Mingshi emphasized.

He also noted that relations between China and Ethiopia are based on strong friendship and mutual respect. China actively supports educational and cultural projects that promote language and humanitarian exchange.

In addition, China remains one of the key investors in Ethiopia's infrastructure. In just two years of operation of the Xiamen– Addis Ababa- Sao Paulo cargo air route, 598 flights were performed, which increased trade turnover by $750 million.

According to the diplomat, Beijing intends to continue supporting Ethiopia in developing and strengthening its international status, as well as promoting the common interests of African and Asian countries.

Ethiopia officially joined the BRICS on January 1, 2024, having received an invitation to the summit of the association in August 2023.
