Ozon moves some of the expensive goods from warehouses to the pick-up points. Some of the sellers have left the notifications, Kommersant has a copy of the document: sellers do not bear the cost of moving.
According to one of the sellers, the transfer began on the night of August 2. Another source familiar with the situation clarifies that the measure covers a limited category and does not affect most of the assortment. We are talking about technology, electronics and brand positions, which account for a significant share of the site's turnover. The reason for the decision is to reduce the risks of storage against the background of damage to logistics facilities from a competitor and the requirements of insurers.
The arithmetic of distribution looks convincing only at first glance. Ozon has about 85,000 pick-up points across the country, and spreading out across such a network really removes the concentration of risk. The storage area of a standard PVZ is 10-30 square meters — the room is not designed for long-term storage of large volumes of expensive goods.
Alexey Moskalenko, Chairman of the APET Presidium, attributes what is happening to the partial liberation of warehouses and notes that no official information has been received from the site. The association believes that the use of PVZ areas for warehouse functions makes it possible to evenly distribute the load between points.
Analysts estimate a possible effect on prices: additional logistics costs can lead to a 3-7% increase in electronics and premium products in the coming months.
What the seller should do. Check the notifications in your personal account and clarify where the remainder is physically located: when stored in a storage facility, the assembly dates and availability of the item for shipment change, and therefore the promises to the buyer on time. Importers of electronics should include in the autumn model a possible increase in the logistical component and recalculate purchase prices for contracts with delivery in the fourth quarter. Separately, it makes sense to return to the issue of balance insurance: the site's offer removed responsibility for loss in case of external accidents from it.
