The agreement provides for the mutual acceptance of national QR codes: Uzbek users will have access to the Kazakh QR system when paying for goods and services in Kazakhstan, and Kazakhstani users will have access to the UzQR platform when making payments in Uzbekistan. In parallel, the parties intend to develop a mechanism for cross-border money transfers via mobile applications of banks in both countries to cards issued in the partner country.
The agreement also covers information and technological exchange, as well as the study of other areas of cooperation in payment technologies.
The growth of mutual trade and intensive contacts between the citizens of the two countries have created a steady demand for convenient cross—border payments - this is what experts call the main driver of the initiative. Mutual recognition of national QR codes will allow you to pay using the usual tools without additional conversions and intermediaries.
Kazakhstan is building similar payment bridges with 11 countries at once. The list of partners includes China, India, the United Arab Emirates, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. The launch of cross-border QR payments with China is planned before the end of 2026, and integration with other countries will take place in stages.
For importers and exporters who settle accounts with Kazakh and Uzbek partners, the new mechanism means a practical expansion of the toolkit: transfers via mobile banking applications directly to counterparty cards can speed up small operational payments — advances, partial payments, settlements with agents. A full-fledged launch of the system will open up the opportunity to test this channel as early as 2026 as the infrastructure is put into operation.
