The labeling of fur products raises questions among the participants of the foreign economic activity. A NOVELCO expert explains whether there really are changes and how the transition to DataMatrix affects logistics and customs.

With the introduction of a new form of labeling of fur products, many participants in foreign economic activity have questions. The main concern concerned the introduction of DataMatrix codes— an allegedly complex and incomprehensible procedure that could complicate logistics and complicate customs clearance. However, Vyacheslav Zalivashenko, an expert with more than 20 years of experience in this field, says there is no cause for concern.

As explained by the head of the customs clearance department at NOVELCO, fur products have long been subject to mandatory labeling using control identification marks (CID), and the introduction of DataMatrix is just a transition to a more modern and technologically advanced format of these marks. Thus, the changes relate only to the form, not the essence of the process. The new label does not introduce additional responsibilities, but only improves current practice.

The main rule remains unchanged: each product must be marked ** before being submitted for release for domestic consumption**. This is a mandatory requirement that remains in effect.

As for the paperwork, everything is stable here too. The set of documentation for the declaration remains the same: invoice, contract, packing lists, waybills (air, auto or sea transport), as well as permits, if necessary. Thus, the business processes of logistics companies and importers should not undergo significant changes.

The expert emphasizes that despite the concerns of some market participants, neither the documentation structure nor the customs clearance procedure itself are becoming more complicated due to the transition to DataMatrix. On the contrary, modern labeling can improve product tracking and increase supply transparency, which is especially important in the context of increasing product traceability requirements.
