Retail trade: new rules from September 1, 2026
On September 12, the strategic Russian-Chinese business meeting "High-quality cooperation in the field of cross-border electronic commerce" was held at the World Trade Center in Moscow. China — Russia". The event brought together the largest delegation in recent years from Shenzhen, a key hub for Chinese cross—border e-commerce. Three topics were on the negotiating table: direct contracts without intermediaries, the use of artificial intelligence in sales, and restoring the trust of Chinese sell

The meeting was organized by "Zoltar Expo", the Russian-Chinese Chamber for Trade Promotion of Machine, Technical and Innovative Products and the Shenzhen Cross-Border E-Commerce Association (Shenzhen Cross-Border E-Commerce Association). The meeting was initiated and organized by Shi Jinhui, Chairman of the Russian branch of the Association, ensuring the arrival of a high—ranking delegation from China.

The Chinese side was introduced:

  • Winnie Wang — Chairman of the Shenzhen Cross-Border E-Commerce Association
  • Shi Jinhui (Jinhui Shi) — Chairman of the Russian branch of the Association, organizer of the meeting
  • Xu Wang, Deputy Secretary General of the Association
  • Helen Zhong — Director of the Association's Department of Industrial Parks
  • Xie Lin— CEO of Shenzhen Meiyunji Network Technology — IT solutions for e-commerce
  • Ho Kunyu (Kwun Yui Ho) — Founder of AI 10X E-commerce University, Hong Kong
  • Song Zijian (Zi Jian Song) — President of Xingxi Holdings, Shenzhen
  • Jiang Genyuan (Gen Yuan Jiang) — President of Jiu Lv Group
  • Yang Hao (Hao Yang) — CEO of Shenzhen Wujiang Digital Innovation

The Russian side was represented by Pavel Ustyuzhaninov, Executive Secretary of the Russian-Chinese Chamber, Maxim Zakharov, representative of MEGA shopping complexes, as well as Russian buyers, sellers and marketplace operators.

Three topics that set the agenda

1. Direct dialogue and B2B contracts without intermediaries

The central format of the meeting was a series of B2B negotiations between Russian buyers and Chinese suppliers. The key task is to build direct supply channels, bypassing long chains of intermediaries that increase the cost of goods and reduce the speed of reaction to changes in demand.

The Chinese side came not only with presentations, but also with a willingness to sign specific agreements. The delegation included manufacturers, IT platforms, operators of industrial parks and financial structures — a full range of competencies for building a vertically integrated supply chain.

2. Artificial intelligence in marketplace sales

The technological block has become one of the most intense. Experts from Shenzhen and Hong Kong presented specific cases of AI applications: pricing automation, predictive demand analytics, optimization of product cards, inventory management and personalization of advertising campaigns on platforms.

Ho Cunyu, founder of AI 10X E-commerce University (Hong Kong), showed how AI tools can significantly scale sales without proportionally increasing operating costs. For Russian retailers operating on Ozon, Wildberries and other platforms, this is a direct competitive advantage, especially against the background of the growing number of Chinese sellers on Russian marketplaces.

3. Restoring trust: warehouses, risks and transparency

The third topic turned out to be the most acute. The situation with the warehouse infrastructure of Russian marketplaces — delays, losses, and lack of transparency of processes — caused the outflow of some Chinese sellers from the Russian market. Risk minimization mechanisms were discussed at the meeting: cargo insurance, verification of warehouse operators, digital tracking of goods and the creation of a transparent logistics environment.

The Russian side recognized the problem and offered specific tools: work through verified logistics partners, insurance, as well as the placement of showrooms in MEGA-format shopping complexes, reducing dependence on marketplace warehouses.

Direct speech of the participants:
"We are talking about the turnover of commercial goods, consumer goods, equipment, materials. We are also talking about trade in services, e-commerce in services. We will be very happy to develop this area together with you here, because the tourism sector is growing and the finance sector is growing. All these areas can develop well on electronic platforms. I am very interested in the further development of our Russian-Chinese trade. " — Wang Xin

" We invite e-commerce operators and platforms to establish their representative offices and showrooms in MEGA shopping malls across the country. We invite Chinese sellers to open their stores in MEGA — the doors are open. " — Maxim Zakharov, representative of MEGA

What does this mean for the market

The meeting was a confirmation of several important trends.

Firstly, the Chinese side's interest in the Russian e—commerce market remains high, despite the logistical difficulties and the sanctions context.

Secondly, Chinese business is moving from the tactics of "trial deliveries" to a systematic partnership: a delegation from Shenzhen arrived with specific products, technologies and willingness to long-term agreements.

Thirdly, AI becomes an entry point into negotiations — not as an abstract topic, but as a specific toolkit for improving sales efficiency. Russian sellers who master these tools ahead of their competitors will gain an advantage in the growing cross-border trading market.

According to experts, the bilateral trade turnover between Russia and China in January–July 2026 reached $159 billion, which is 26% higher than last year. Cross-border e-commerce remains one of the most dynamic growth channels in these statistics.
