A platform for Chinese businesses to enter foreign markets has been launched in Xiamen— a port city in Fujian Province in southeastern China.
It is organized according to the country principle: a separate session is allocated for each direction. The program includes briefings on foreign policy, presentations by specialized service companies and an exchange of experience in entering foreign markets. The task is to match supply with real demand.
The BRICS Partnership Innovation Center for the New Industrial Revolution describes the structure as an official channel of interaction.
"We will coordinate our work with official bodies, including foreign embassies and consulates of the BRICS countries in China, investment promotion agencies and chambers of commerce. We will invite foreign delegations for face—to-face talks at the BRICS Industrial Competence Center and the Single Window center for access to foreign markets," said Ke Haitao, Deputy director of the center.
The Innovation Center has signed an agreement with a commercial company on cooperation in entering foreign markets. The parties agreed to deepen cooperation in information exchange, business networking and investment services.
For a Russian importer, the practical value lies elsewhere. The emergence of a structured channel for Chinese exporters to enter the BRICS markets means that some suppliers will come to negotiations prepared, with an understanding of the requirements for certification, labeling and customs procedures of the destination country. This changes the balance of power in negotiations: there are fewer "what do you need?" questions, and more ready-made proposals.
Xiamen was not chosen by chance: the city hosted the BRICS summit in 2017, and the association's Industrial Competence Center also operates there.
What a business should do. It makes sense for companies looking for suppliers in China to monitor country sessions in Russia: manufacturers who are purposefully focused on exporting to the BRICS countries come to them. For negotiations, this is the entry point where the counterparty already understands the specifics of the direction and does not need to explain the basic requirements from scratch.
