Delo Group is considering the opening of a container line between Mormugao and Novorossiysk, and is also exploring the option of shipping fertilizers to the Indian port in containers.

Delo Group of Companies has announced its intention to explore the possibility of establishing a regular container service between the Russian port of Novorossiysk and the Indian state port of Mormugao in Goa. This was announced by Sergey Shishkarev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Delo Group of Companies, on the sidelines of the Transport Week 2025 forum.

According to the top manager, Mormugao annually processes about 20 million tons of cargo. Although the port stopped handling containers seven years ago, all the necessary technological equipment has been preserved there. This makes it possible to resume container lines if there is a steady cargo flow and economic feasibility.

Shishkarev recalled that Novorossiysk is the closest point of Russia to India when traveling through the Black Sea, which makes the route promising. At the initial stage, ships can enter Mumbai, but in the future they will also consider direct communication between the two ports.

In addition, Delo Group plans to work out the economics of shipping fertilizers in containers to the port of Mormugao. Currently, coal and fertilizers are already being shipped to this port, and the company is considering the possibility of transshipment of fertilizers in a container format. According to Shishkarev, the demand for such shipments is growing, and containerization is becoming a convenient and flexible tool for multilateral logistics, especially in the presence of balanced return shipments.

The head of the Board of Directors also noted that the discussion took place within the framework of the interdepartmental Russian-Indian consultations on civil maritime issues with the participation of Sarbananda Sonoval, Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways of India. The parties are discussing the development of direct sea routes, including the expansion of communications within the framework of transport cooperation amid the growth of mutual trade.

Thus, Delo Group is considering the possibility of opening a new marine line, which may become an important element in the development of a transport corridor between Russia and India. The final decision will be made after analyzing the economic model of transportation and assessing stable cargo flows.
