Ozon is launching a project to turn pick-up points into small logistics centers. The company announced this on August 28, breaking the launch into two phases.
The first stage starts on September 10. They will start leaving items at pick-up points that customers have not redeemed within two weeks or canceled. Such items physically remain in the PVZ, but after processing they reappear on the showcase of the marketplace and are available for order in the usual way. When the product is ordered, it will be handed over to the Ozon courier and delivered to the buyer in the desired city.
The platform described the charging procedure directly: the seller is charged a tariff for the sale of FBO, logistics and fees for other services are charged as usual. The same rule was extended to goods that Ozon exported to pick-up points in early August: technically, they also pass as cancellations.
One limitation of the first stage is significant for the seller. In September, you will not be able to pick up your products from the pick-up point on your own. The option will appear before the end of October.
The second stage opens in October. Sellers will be able to bring goods for storage and sale to pick-up points themselves, and the platform will begin transporting products between points.
PVZ owners receive additional income — according to the company's calculations, about 15 thousand rubles per month for the processing and storage of goods. Sellers pay for these services.
The reason why the project appeared right now lies on the surface: distributed storage in 80,000 small locations is more stable than the concentration of goods in large warehouses. For seller, this is a transition from the logic of "all the rest in one warehouse" to the logic of the network, and turnover will have to be calculated differently.
What to do before September 10th. To raise the statistics of non-purchases and cancellations over the past three months and understand how much of the assortment will be included in the new scheme automatically. To put into the model that this product will be frozen at points throughout September without the possibility of export. And to evaluate the October stage separately: for compact, expensive positions, voluntary placement in a storage facility may be cheaper than warehouse storage, and for large extras, on the contrary.
