On July 20, 2026, a new version of the Yandex Market agreement with sellers entered into force. A clause appeared in the document that removes responsibility for compensation of losses from the site if the goods in the warehouse were damaged as a result of an external incident — the wording covers damage from drones, ammunition and other means of destruction.
The change is part of a broader trend. Similar adjustments to the terms have already been made by Wildberries and Ozon: both sites previously rewrote their offers so that force majeure circumstances of this kind exclude the responsibility of the marketplace for the safety of the goods. Now the wording of Yandex Market aligns the terms of the site with the other two largest market players.
The reason for the synchronous review is the increase in incidents on the logistics infrastructure of marketplaces in recent months. When the risk of losing goods in the warehouse became not hypothetical, but regular, the issue of distributing financial losses between the site and the seller ceased to be theoretical and required a direct solution in the contract.
The practical effect for the seller is direct: if earlier the distribution of responsibility for such cases was the subject of negotiations or ambiguous interpretation of the contract, now in all three largest offers the risk is clearly assigned to the seller. This does not mean that any support is automatically denied — as the example of Wildberries shows with cash payments and deferred loans - but the legal obligation to compensate for the cost of goods has been removed from the site.
Sellers who place goods in Yandex Market warehouses should carefully study the current version of the offer, which entered into force on July 20, and determine the amount of their own risk on stored balances. A reasonable step is to consider commercial inventory insurance in marketplace warehouses: once the risk is confirmed by the contract as belonging to the seller, and not to the site, covering this risk becomes the task of the seller himself, and not the subject of a dispute with the marketplace after the fact.
