Fesco Transport Group has reduced the total processing time for container shipments through the Vladivostok Commercial Sea Port (VMTP) by 39 hours due to the digitalization of document management, automation of operations and optimization of internal business processes, the company said.
Electronic interaction with participants in the logistics chain, including customs authorities and Russian Railways, made it possible to eliminate manual operations and speed up procedures that previously took more than a day.
The time for processing containers after the customs declaration was issued was reduced by more than three times to seven hours. The effect was achieved by revising the work schedule, eliminating unnecessary stages of approval and updating internal regulations.
A separate contribution was made by the automation of the transfer of containers to railway transport through the VMTP. The new mechanism ensures the automatic delivery of containers to the railway without additional manual operations and waiting times, which made it possible to reduce paperwork by another 20 hours.
For cargo owners operating through the port of Vladivostok, the cumulative effect means a noticeable acceleration of the entire chain from the arrival of the vessel to the shipment of the container further by rail. This is especially important for goods with a limited shelf life or for companies whose logistical leverage is already stretched due to the remoteness of the Far Eastern direction from the rest of the country.
Companies that ship goods through the Russian Maritime Transport System should check with Fesco or their forwarder whether the accelerated scheme applies to their type of cargo and declaration category, and recalculate the planned delivery dates taking into account the new standard — this may give reason to review the contractual delivery dates with customers in the Far Eastern direction.
